Hard ( Challenging) Slow

Postby RoyHiggi on Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:12 pm

Just played a round in these conditions and breezy.
Anyone got a clue what "regular" speed this equates to for putting in the non challenging game? I had no idea for much of the round and was leaving 12 foot putts 4 feet short then I'd whack one 6 feet past lol. Got luck on the back getting closer but even at the end I felt I was guessing.

For me, C/C putting is a lot different for me going uphill. I use the Red meter while playing C/C. That is except when I have a mid to longer putt going uphill. I have to hit the putt a lot harder as it seems to be slower than my calculation. Same with a ball just off the green I will putt the ball most times in normal mode but in C/C it seems to be like putting thru mud so I will chip.

I guess this doesn't answer your question Roy but those conditions are about the same for me as far as judging the distance as the others.

Seems kind of strange seeing the guy who wins just about every tourney he enters asking for putting help from those he beats. I would suggest practicing those mixed conditions, but i know how much you abhor practice

What’s C/C? Is that when it’s all challenging? Not sure what you are referring to?
I thought hard (challenging) soft would be the same as mod/medium in non challenging for putting. That was mile out.

I then thought it would be mod/slow but that wasn’t right and putts didn’t reach. So I assumed it must be soft/slow and I whacked it past the hole. From my playing of non challenging green speeds that’s basically all there is LOL.

You are correct I don’t like practice at all. But in the circumstances I just went and had a little putting practice.

I looked for Hard ( challenging ) and all I could see was Firm( challenging) I assume that would be the same thing but then when I hit a few putts there is no way it was the same as the round I played earlier which baffled me completely.

Fire up your game, choose play golf, new round, pick the course you want, to the right are conditions with 4 settings, the 1st one is the wind, the 2nd is green hardness pick Firm/challenging, the 3rd is green speed pick slow the 1st choice. Then you will have the green speed you encountered in that aussie aussie aussie tourney's 4th round. The 4th tab is pin placement

PS: set it up with unlimited mulligans so once you reach a green you can stay and figure out the dot distances.Instead of having to go tee to green each time.

C/C means champ/challenge. I see now that you were playing in a league event where they mixed a Challenge green condition with a regular green condition. Never tried it and never will. :!:

Steve and Pete both occasionally use mixed conditions in their leagues (DP and World Tours respectively). It does take a while to get used to, but it doubles the amount of green conditions available. For me it adds another dimension to the game which I find quite enjoyable.

That’s exactly what I did but as I said it was hard challenging not firm although I assume they are the same. Whatever though I still couldn’t work out the speed of the greens to compare to non challenging.

I’ve played quite a few and enjoyed them but just haven’t come across a combination that I couldn’t work out before. H

Heyho I’ll just after play some more and work it out.

When the Challenging hardness and green speed conditions were added, I never saw anything that said "not to be mixed with any previous conditions!", so I've been mixing them ever since then. It's not a matter of crossing some forbidden barrier when you go from pre-challenging to challenging - you don't enter some unpredictable hybrid world. The two sets of conditions blend quite well. Firm or Fast is the upper limit of pre-challenging - adding a challenging condition to either of them just raises the limit. As far as I've been able to tell, adding a challenging condition to a non-challenging condition doesn't duplicate any combination of non-challenging condition plus non-challenging condition.

Moderate and Firm (challenging) is a good mix since it gives you some softness in the fairways and greens while giving you a reasonable boost to the speed on the greens.

Moderate and Moderate (Challenging) should be a pretty good compromise for those who prefer the pre-1.07 conditions as the greens are only slightly faster.

Firm and Moderate (Challenging) is another good mix with a slight increase to the green speed.

Firm and Fast (Challenging) is a bit tougher to deal with. It can get away from you if you're not careful! If the end of the putt is rolling downhill you might be wise to subtract 3 or 4 feet from the total putt distance to compensate.

I don't like the combinations with Soft or Slow, and Soft (Challenging) or Slow (Challenging), so I don't play them.

Hope this helps someone.

I’m with you on all of that Pete and having played plenty of your tourneys as I said I’ve enjoyed the mixed events. I felt I worked out the putting fairly well.

Then I get your final comments about not liking the soft or slow which is the conditions I couldn’t work out LOL
