Crash when logging-in to LSPN Online Tour

Postby cheesycrouton on Tue May 31, 2022 6:22 am

Hello,

I just signed up and am trying to launch the LSPN online tour in Links 2003. I verified that I am running v1.07, and ran the LSPN_MAIN_L2K3.exe. When I go to "Online->The Links Tour", it has a popup to enter my username/password. When I click "Ok", it shows a connection dialog (and it looks like it connects) and then game crashes to the desktop. Any idea what might be causing this issue, or how to fix it?

Edit: Here is the crash info from the Event Viewer:

Have you added in all the update patches? There's like 3 or 4 of them.

Here are 2 of the patches, Cheesy:

2. Install the conditions crash fix
http://www.lspn.net/downloads/LSPN_CRASH_FIX.exe

3. Install the Server Setup. This will ensure Links 2003 is pointing at the right server.

Thanks, Pete. Unfortunately, I had already applied both of those patches, and the crash still occurred. :(

Did you enter the exact same username/password as you use here at this site? It is case-sensitive..

Yes, I double-checked that I am using the same username/pw as on LSPN. I tried looking at the lnkstour.dll (using DLL Export Viewer/hex editor) to try and determine what function was causing the error, but did not have any luck. I appreciate all of the suggestions, though.

you might try using the "LinksLauncher.exe" to launch the game. It's in the same folder as the "LINKSMMiii.exe"

That's where my shortcut is pointed.

LinksLauncher.exe is what I always use.

Ok. It looked like you were using the LINKSMM according to the event viewer. My bad.

Oh right, I see how you would think that. No, I use LinksLauncher.exe, which then spawns LinksMMIII.exe and the error happens from there. I searched the forums some more and found a thread where another user had the exact same problem here:

http://lspn.net/community/viewtopic.php ... &sk=t&sd=a

Unfortunately, there did not seem to be a resolution to the issue.

The only other thing I can think of: When you fire up Links and get to the login page, are your connection settings correct?

And just to clarify : the conditions crash fix patch is to allow you to see the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round conditions once you get to the events page. And you're not getting there. Before the patch, the game would crash when we tried to view any round beyond the first.

My connection settings are set to "Use System Internet Settings". I've even tried unchecking it and selecting connection type: "Connect through LAN", but same result. Are there manual proxy settings that I should be using?

I've installed the conditions crash fix patch, but I cannot get to the events page. I've uploaded a video of it crashing to desktop here:

Your video that ends before showing any crash, does show that your game is NOT v1.07 Which it must be to play online.

I verified that you are not updated to the 1.07 version. You get a message to that effect as soon as your video starts running.
